2008 Walk for TEAM DUDE
On Saturday, June 7, 2008 we will be hosting a very special event “Walk for Team Dude” a fundraiser walk and day at the park consisting of food, fun, and entertainment. The Walk for Team Dude will feature a 5K walk and resource fair focusing on children with autistic spectrum disorders and their families. We are also planning many fun events and family entertainment. The walk will be held at Heritage Park in Absecon, N.J. Registration and the resource fair is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. followed by the walk and special events.
We will be walking to raise money for our team entry in WALK NOW FOR AUTISM, Autism Speaks largest fundraiser for autism research to be held on September 20, 2008. Autism Speaks is one of the leading national organizations dedicated to providing funding for autism research to search for causes and cures for autism. The organization consist of parents, clinicians and scientists dedicated to finding answers, biological treatments, prevention and a cure for autism and autism related disorders. Additionally, Autism Speaks is committed to broadening awareness and an understanding of autism.
Autism is as a complex neurobiological disorder of development that affects 1 in 150 children nationwide and 1 in 94 children in New Jersey. Most likely you know someone who is either directly or indirectly affected by autism or an autistic spectrum disorder. Children with autism have difficulty communicating and interacting with others. The cause of autism is unknown and we have yet to find a cure. Autism presents a life long challenge for those diagnosed and their families. However, with your help and the help of organizations like Autism Speaks we can make a difference and find a cure.
Walk for Team Dude is a volunteer led and volunteer driven event. The event is named for Patrick Dooley “The Dude” a seven year old Absecon resident diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder. Patrick has inspired his family and friends to help find a cure for autism.
